Privacy policy

Plain English, because a privacy policy nobody can read is not a disclosure. We collect very little, we sell nothing, and everything below is a description of what actually happens on this site.

Who we are

Windup & Wonder (https://windupandwonder.com) is published by Type 5 Marketing LLC. Questions about anything on this page go to info@windupandwonder.com.

What we collect

If you only read the site: we do not ask you for anything and you do not create an account, because there are no accounts. We do not run advertising networks, we do not host third-party ad tags, and we do not build advertising profiles of readers.

If you send us a message: the contact form collects your name, your email address, an optional phone number and whatever you write in the message. That is sent to our inbox so we can reply. We use it to answer you and for nothing else, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

Anti-spam data. The contact form records how long the page was open before submission and includes a hidden field that real people never fill in. Both are used only to reject automated submissions. Your IP address is used in memory, briefly, to limit how many messages can be sent from one address per hour. Neither is stored in a database or used to identify you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful — how many people arrive, which pages they read, roughly where in the world they are, and which links they click. It uses cookies and collects a truncated IP address. We look at it in aggregate; we are not trying to identify individual readers and the tool does not tell us who you are.

One custom event is worth naming explicitly because it is unusual: when you click a buy button, we record that a buy button was clicked, on which page, for which product. That is how we tell which recommendations are useful. It records the click, not the purchase — we never see what you bought, what you paid, or your Amazon account.

You can opt out entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser or an extension. Nothing on this site breaks if you do — the whole site is static pages and works fine with every script blocked.

Affiliate links and cookies

Product links here go to retailers, primarily Amazon, and are marked as sponsored. When you follow one, the retailer typically sets a cookie so it can attribute a later purchase to us. That cookie is the retailer’s, set on the retailer’s domain, governed by the retailer’s privacy policy — not ours. Amazon reports our earnings to us as aggregate totals: we can see that a product sold, never who bought it.

Full detail on the commercial arrangement is on the affiliate disclosure page.

Cookies, in one list

  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, to count visits and page views.
  • Retailer cookies set by Amazon and other retailers after you click through to them, on their domains.
  • No advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking pixels from ad networks. We do not run display ads.

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Doing so does not degrade this site in any way.

Hosting and delivery

The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamps) in order to serve pages and to protect the service from abuse. Product images are served directly by Amazon’s image CDN, which means Amazon receives a request when a product photo loads.

How long we keep things

Contact form messages stay in our email until they are dealt with and are deleted when they are no longer needed. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ settings. The anti-spam rate-limit data is held in memory only and disappears within the hour.

Children

This site is written for adults buying toys, not for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and there is no mechanism on the site through which a child could provide any. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted; and to opt out of the “sale” or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information and never have. For anything else, email info@windupandwonder.com and we will action it. Given how little we hold, the answer to “what do you have on me” is usually “nothing.”

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. We do not make material changes quietly.
